01 — The company

Jsmu 2 ApS is a one-man software company in Dragør.

It is registered at Sophus Falcks Allé 22, in the care of Jørgen Michelsen, who writes the software, answers the post and signs the filings. There is nobody else to be passed along to.

A company this size does not need a page explaining its mission, and you would not believe one if it had it. What a page can usefully carry is the register entry, a working address, and some evidence that whoever is behind it thinks carefully. All three are below, in that order, with a small piece of arithmetic standing in for the third.

03 — On Google Play

There is one app on the store.

It is called Myldretid — Danish for rush hour. A small car park, a red car that wants out, and other vehicles that will only slide along their own lane. No connection is opened, no account exists, and nothing inside it is for sale.

04 — One measurable thing

You could play a jam at random for a thousand years and never once stumble on the short way out.

Sliding things about in a crowded space feels like the sort of problem you could blunder through, because every individual move is obvious and reversible. The arithmetic says otherwise, and it says it loudly. Below are five jams. For each one the page works out every position reachable from it, how few moves escape, and how many move sequences of that same length exist — which is the number of ways to play that many moves and be wrong.

2 438positions this jam can ever reach
9movesthe fewest single-square slides that free the red car
18 844 593sequences of that many moves you could play instead
1 in 2.4 millionchance of blundering into a shortest escape

Nine moves looks like nothing. Nine moves is 18 844 593 different things you could do, of which 8 get the car out. Blunder for an hour at one move a second and you will not have covered a thousandth of it.

Everything above is worked out in the page when you choose a jam: a breadth-first sweep of every position reachable by sliding one vehicle one square, the shortest distance to a freed red car, and an exact count of the move sequences of that length — carried in whole numbers, not floating point, because the counts outgrow the precision of a decimal fraction. The same five jams were worked out separately beforehand and the two agree exactly, position counts and all. The jams were generated for this page and are not taken from the app. Absent by design: nothing on the board can be moved, no solution is shown and no move is ever named. This counts a space; finding the way through it is a separate pleasure and it is not on offer here.
